How to track Pokemon in Pokemon Go without footsteps

It takes a bit of maths, but here’s the trick!

A month or so after Pokemon Go was released, the developer made a change. The Pokemon Go developer’s decision was to remove the ability to track Pokemon. Thousands of Pokemon Go users were upset. Tracking Pokemon in Pokemon Go became a lot harder – almost impossible. Until now! While we are waiting for the developer to introduce the new tracking method, here’s how to track Pokemon in Pokemon Go without the footstep tracker.

1. Find the Pokemon you want to catch

Start with the point at which the Pokemon first appears in your ‘nearby’ section. Let’s call this ‘Point A’.

2. Lose that Pokemon

Walk in a straight line until you see the Pokemon disappear from the ‘nearby’ section. Stop walking. Let’s call this position ‘Point B’.

3. Start Pokemon searching again

Turn around. Look back at Point A (which is where you started) from Point B (where you are currently standing). Find the middle point between the two, which we will call ‘Point C’.

4. Walk to Point C

Head down to Point C, which is halfway between Point A and Point B on the Pokemon Go map. Ignore all Pokemon that appear in the nearby Pokemon Go box. Their relative positions to each other does not matter in this case.

5. Rotate and find that Pokemon

From Point C, turn 90 degrees in either direction and walk in a straight line until you see the Pokemon you want. If it instead disappears from the nearby Pokebox box, then turn around and walk in a straight line until you see the Pokemon you are looking for.

Why does this Pokemon Go tracking method work?

How to track Pokemon in Pokemon Go

When you walk from the point where the Pokemon appears (Point A) to the point where it disappears (Point B), you crossed a path within its circle. The Pokemon is located in the centre of the circle. You need to find this centre.

Point C, which is the exact middle between Point A and Point B, is going to be in perfect line with the centre of the circle. You do not know in which direction, so just pick one randomly, if you do not see it, then you know it’s going to be directly behind you. Turn around and walk in a straight line until you come across the Pokemon.
